“Life used to be less complicated.” Hal shook his head.
“No, it wasn’t.” Valerie chuckled.
“Then what is that supposed to be?” Hal pointed at a person.
Valerie looked, twisted her head this way and that, then scratched her cheek. “Oh, Kris.” She called their grandson over and pointed. “Is that a boy or a girl?”
Kris glanced up. “Um…yes.” They looked confused, which made him laugh. “He’s a trap. A really good one, too.”
With that, Kris returned to the convention with his friends. Valerie looked at Hal with raised eyebrows. “Yep,” she said. “It’s more complicated nowadays.”
