Repeat After Me

The wizard stood at his cauldron, muttering to himself as he stirred the potion. When the boiling brew was ready, he summoned his apprentice Saul.

“Bring me my spell book.”

Saul bowed and hurried out of the room. Sounds of grumbling and shifting furniture made the wizard shake his head. “Hard to find good help these days.”

“Here you are, Master,” Saul said, holding out a large leather tome.

The wizard turned to the bookmarked page and sighed. The spell required two people–and he only had Saul.

“You must repeat after me,” the wizard said, pointing his finger at Saul. “It must be verbatim. Do you understand?”

“Uh-huh.” Saul cleaned under his finger nail and nodded.

Everything rested on the wizard and Saul performing the spell precisely as needed–they failed.
